First and foremost, I have to give a congratulations to the Kovacs family on the birth of their twins! We can’t wait to visit everyone back home during the holidays, especially the new additions.

Old Beijing Street - Wangfujing

We’re back home in Bang Lamoong after a pretty awesome trip to Beijing and a nice Sunday to ground us back to the heat.  With the humidity, it’s close to 100 degrees again. Beijing was a cool 45-55 degrees but Lorraine and I both agreed that getting a taste of fall was nice (and normal). I posted some pics over at flickr. I took a total of 732 pictures and chose 72 that I thought were interesting enough to show. Beijing is beautiful. Even without the Great Wall and the Forbidden City and the Peking duck, Beijing is soft on the eyes while just walking around the neighborhoods and parks.

I’ve also started to shoot HDR photography and have started a flickr set. I still can’t justify the merit of HDR as an honest photography medium. To me, the purpose of photography is to capture reality, not distort it. For now though, HDR is just a good excuse to spend more time with my camera.

It’s always nice to hear from everyone be it from comments here or on flickr and facebook. If you stop by, please say hi! Lorraine and I are always starving for contact from the western world :)

Lorraine will back me up that I’m not one to make a big deal out of my birthday. Then again, who over the age of 29 really wants to tell the world you’re getting older. When Lorraine would ask what do I want to do for my birthday, I like to play shy and explain that since it’s *my* day, I don’t want to do anything special. Typically I’ll find a good excuse to either stay home and watch some sort of urgent sporting event. This year, not a chance. While Lorraine was in Italy, I was unavoidably the guest of honor of what became one of the greatest birthday parties yet (although my 25th bday party at Mr. Goodbar ranks pretty high).

This is a picture of our wonderful and now extended Thai family The picture is horrible, but I get a little nervous sometimes pulling out the camera. I waited way too long and it was dark and all I had was my cell phone.

My birthday party

In the grey shirt, standing up is our good friend Arkom. Arkom has been our connection to everything Thailand. These are his friends and family that have since adopted me, particularly with Lorraine being out of town. Without going on and on, these guys threw me one fantastic party. Their kindness and generosity is incredibly overwhelming. They make it really easy to survive here.

I’d also like to thank everyone who emailed me birthday wishes and posted to my Facebook. Lorraine and I miss you all very much and we’re already making our plans to come home in December.
